How to Keep Your Spine Healthy Between Chiropractic Visits

When it comes to anything in life, consistency is key. Regular chiropractic visits should be a staple in your wellness routine. What you do between those visits can help project your progress and ensure a successful recovery.

Below are 3 easy techniques to help keep your spine in top-notch condition between visits. The best news is that these methods are all drug-free, non-invasive, and FREE!

  1. The Power of Good Posture

Sitting Posture: Ensure your feet are flat on the floor and your back against the chair. Your seat height matters regarding making sure your knees are at a 90-degree angle and if there is a computer screen at eye level. We do NOT want slouching and straining of your back and neck.

Standing Posture: Ensure your body weight is distributed evenly between your feet. Engage your core muscles and avoid locking your knees. A good cue to think about is that you are trying to balance a glass of water on your head!

Sleeping Posture: A good mattress and pillow can go a long way! If you sleep on your back or side make sure you have a pillow between your knees. The pillow helps keep your hips aligned resulting in your spine being aligned.

  2. Regular Exercise

We all know how exercise is good for your overall health, but how does it affect the state of your spine? Regular activity strengthens the core muscles around the spine. The stronger and more flexible these muscles are the more support the spine and its discs have. The best low-impact exercises are swimming, walking, and yoga!

  3. Stretching and Mobility

Stretching should be incorporated into your daily routine. The saying goes “A flexible muscle is a strong muscle.” A mobile muscle helps take pressure off the tendons. Flexible muscle groups allow for chiropractic treatments to be more effective because the bone can move without restraint. Good stretches for low back pain include stretching of the hips, hamstrings, and core muscles.
